When to Get a Kia Oil Change

2020 Kia Optima SX

When Saugus drivers get a new, used, or certified pre-owned Kia, it’s important to know when to get a Kia oil change to ensure their Kia can perform at its best. While some service experts may recommend getting an oil change every 3,000 miles, thanks to new technology and performance, most vehicles can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles in between oil changes. Learn more about how often to change oil, Kia oil change prices, and more with Pride Kia of Lynn.

How Often to Change Oil

Changing your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles is a good general guideline to make sure your oil remains clean while making daily commutes to Peabody or driving around Lynn. Although, this timeline will differ if you drive a larger vehicle such as an SUV and use more power. If you use your automobile for any of the following activities, you’ll want to schedule more frequent oil changes:

  • Off-roading
  • Commercial use
  • Racing
  • Heavy towing

How Long Does an Oil Change Take?

Salem drivers running on a tight schedule will be happy to know that typically an oil change takes about an hour when conducted by a local mechanic or service center expert. Also, you can always call ahead of time to schedule the best appointment that will get you in and out in no time.

Additional Oil Change Tips

When it’s time to bring in your Kia for its next oil change, keep these tips in mind to get the most out of your visit to our Lynn service department:

  • While you may not drive your vehicle often, it’s important to get an oil change at least twice a year. Oil can still break down over time even if your car isn’t being used.
  • Whenever your oil gets changed, the oil filter should be replaced as well. You can always stop by our dealership for an oil filter if you’re conducting one at home.
  • If you’re wondering “what type of oil does my car need?”, you can consult your owner’s manual to check whether your vehicle requires conventional or synthetic oil.

How to Change Oil on a Car Yourself

While you’re maintaining a consistent oil change schedule, you can also keep an eye on your vehicle’s oil right at home by checking for possible leaks in the oil system, oil discoloration, and metal particles in the oil. Catching these issues ahead of time will help prevent any major damages in the future. If you’re performing a Kia Soul oil change or Kia Optima oil change at home, you can follow these easy steps:

  1. Jack your car up with jack stands or steel ramps.
  2. Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of your oil pan underneath your engine. Place an oil basin directly underneath the plug, unscrew the plug, and allow the old oil to drain out completely (this may take up to 15 minutes). Once all of the oil is drained, you can replace the plug.
  3. Find your oil filter, and remove it with an oil filter wrench. There may be a bit of extra oil draining out when you remove the filter, so be sure to keep the basin underneath to catch it.
  4. Grab the new filter and rub a bit of oil around the rubber seal as this ensures your filter is watertight. This is an important step.
  5. Set the new filter in place, then tighten it by hand.
  6. Once the old oil is completely drained and a new filter is in place, you can remove the oil cap. Pour in the specific amount of oil–which can be found in the owner’s manual–then replace the oil cap.
  1. Before stepping away from your vehicle, you should check your oil level by pulling out the dipstick. If you’re still low, you can add another ounce and check the level again. Once you get a proper oil level reading, you’re all set!
