What Does TPMS Mean?

TPMS Sensors

Your Kia vehicle is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system or TPMS, which uses sensors to monitor the level of air pressure in all of your tires. If your TPMS senses that one of your tires doesn’t have enough air pressure or has too much air pressure, then your TPMS light will flash on your dashboard. The symbol usually looks like the shape of a tire and is usually the color yellow. When you see this light flashing, it just means that you should check your tires to see which tires need the proper amount of air pressure.

What Does the TPMS Do?

As mentioned earlier, your tire pressure monitoring system monitors the air pressure and all of your tires. Usually, the light will flash if one of your tires is under-inflated or doesn’t have enough air pressure. Driving around Peabody with under-inflated tires end lead to any of the following:

  • Less traction
  • Less towing capability
  • Flat tire
  • Blowout
  • Lower fuel economy

To make sure that your TPMS is working at its best, schedule service with us at Pride Kia of Lynn to have your vehicle diagnosed and make sure that all of your components are functioning properly.

Benefits of Proper Tire Inflation

Driving around Salem with under-inflated tires can lead to issues, but driving around with over-inflated tires can also be disadvantageous. Whether your tires need more air pressure or less air pressure, it’s important to make sure that they’re sitting at the proper air pressure level. The benefits of making sure that your tires are properly inflated include:

  • Less tread movement, which increases your tire’s lifespan
  • Less rolling resistance, which increases the efficiency at which your vehicle runs
  • More water dispersion, which lowers the chances of hydroplaning

How to Properly Inflate Your Tires

Now that you know what TPMS means and what it does to your tires, you’ll need to know how much air to put in your tires if they’re under-inflated. The right amount of air pressure for tires will depend on the vehicle you drive, so consult your owner’s manual for that number. You should also be able to find this number if you open up your driver’s side door and look down on the inside trim. Here, you should find a label that has the information on your tires’ air pressure requirements. If you don’t know, then you can always reach out to the service team at Pride Kia of Lynn to find out how much air your tires need.

Where to Fill Up Your Tires

If your tires are a little low, then you’ll have plenty of options as to where you can fill them up with air. Local filling options include:

  • Local gas stations
  • Service centers
  • Bike pumps
